Blogs: Disagreement among Liberal Bloggers
The buzz in the blogosphere this week is dominated by Liberal bloggers, who account for four of the top five entries. Three of the top five entries for this week focus on the contentious issue of liberal bloggers’s criticisms against the party and Stephane Dion for not calling for an election. Jason Cherniak calls for more blogger support in the most linked-to entry for this week, while Scott’s Diatribes (#3) and Farnwide (#4) offered strong rebuttals against Cherniak’s post. Of the other two entries from Conservative blogger Stephen Taylor focuses on alleged involvement of Rae’s liberal leadership campaign staff and the sponsorship scandal.
News
Two main themes emerge from the most cited mainstream news stories in the blogosphere this week. The first theme refers to the difficulties faced by the Liberals with regards to Dion’s campaign debt and the questionable position of the party in Quebec. The second theme is focused on the Speaker of the House of Commons denouncing the dysfunctionialities and extreme partisanship of parliamentary committees.

Last week’s spike in the number of YouTube views for the party leaders subsided this week. Harper’s connection to the “NAFTAgate” affair did not carry over into this week, since only one of his most viewed clips dealt with this issue compared to four clips last week. However, it appears that Layton is continuing to receive attention for his handling of the same affair. Although the “Big Ass” clip regained Layton’s most watched video status this week, his appearance on CNN’s Lou Dobbs and his exchange with Harper in Question Period over the NAFTA situation continued to receive significant attention. Despite Dion’s three by-election victories on Monday, it has not seemed to translate into a more positive regard for him on YouTube, as all of his most viewed clips this week were of a negative tone.
